http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/11/26/nfl.skid.row.teen/index.html

Summary:
This clip shows us, "The high school honor student (who is homeless) and the NFL's highest-paid defensive back stroll down the destitute streets of Skid Row.
Seventeen-year-old Kenneth Chancey is giving a tour to Nnamdi Asomugha, showing the NFL star the streets that he and his sister used to walk to get to school while living in a Skid Row homeless shelter. Prostitutes, addicts and drug dealers scatter. "Camera! Camera!" they shout." It lets us know about Skid Row, and Kenneth Chancey. It shows us their neighborhood.

Response:
I think that this clip is a very great clip to show around the world. This shows the highest paid cornerback in the NFL caring for some homeless kid and wants to help him out. This media all star helps everyone gain interest in this country for homeless people! I think it will help people feel more tender about homeless people, and it was a great clip.

Is Texting More Important Than Your Life??

"Text-Messaging Behind the Wheel"

Summary:

"First it was drinking. Then it was cell phones. Now text-messaging is the latest behind-the-wheel activity lawmakers are trying to curb. A Nationwide Insurance survey found that 18% of cell phone owners text and drive and that drivers between the ages of 16 and 30 are the most frequent texters. Young adults have even posted videos of themselves texting while driving on YouTube, and nearly 600 people have joined a Facebook group called "I Text Message People While Driving And I Haven't Crashed Yet!"
This article is mostly trying to get out to people that driving while texting is a distraction, and very dangerous. It also talks about how it would be hard to enforce the law because its hard to see someone texting because texting is usually lower.

Response:

I agree with this article and I think this is a huge issue in this society. Lots of deaths and injuries are caused because of people wanting to to text while driving. Texting while driving is very dangerous and it should be a law that if your caught texting while driving you would recieve a huge ticket. This would prevent lots of deaths and would make the rodes a lot safer!

Violent Video Games Corrupting the Children

Violent Video Games - Psychologists Help ProtectChildren from Harmful Effects
http://www.psychologymatters.org/videogames.html

Summary:

Psychological research confirms that violent video games can increase children's aggression, but that parents moderate the negative effects. It talks about how Douglas Gentile, PhD, and Craig Anderson, PhD, studies indicate it is likely that violent video games may have even stronger effects on children's aggression because
(1) the games are highly engaging and interactive,
(2) the games reward violent behavior, and because
(3) children repeat these behaviors over and over as they play

It also talks about how Children spend a great deal of time with violent video games at exactly the ages that they should be learning healthy ways to relate to other people and to resolve conflicts peacefully. Because video games are such good teachers, it is critical to help parents, educators, and policy-makers understand how to maximize their benefits while minimizing potential harms.

Response:

I agree with this whole article that children are becoming more aggresive because of the violent games that they play. For example, I was watching a CSI show and it showed teenage boys were playing this video game called "Grand Theft Auto" this game contained; guns, girls, cars, etc. In this show the kids all acted out this game in real life and would add up their points as the game did. Seeing this really showed me how kids even adults are effected by the media and what it shows you, what you play, and what you experience.

NBA social media guidelines out

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4520907
Summary:
This article is about the NBA announcing its new social media guidelines. Telling the teams that the use of cell phones, PDAs and other electronic communications devices and Twitter, Facebook and different media sites, isn't allowed during games for players, coaches and other team people that have to deal with the game.

Response:
I think that this is very smart, because last year this was a huge thing that happened last year. Last year so many players would Twitter during the game when they were on the bench or in the locker room. I don't get why the NBA cares that much that they are doing this during the game. I think that the coaches should be more upset at the players then the NBA banding it from the league.

"Stereotyping in the Media"

http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/issues/stereotyping/index.cfm

Summary:

Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.
Stereotypes can:
1. reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations
2. transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities"
3. be used to justify the position of those in power
4. perpetuate social prejudice and inequality
More often than not, the groups being stereotyped have little to say about how they are represented. It explores the impact of stereotyping on self-image and the development of attitudes among the young, and it showcases efforts to counter stereotyping with alternative programming.

Response:

This article states that television shows have a lot of stereotypes all throughout their shows. like it says stereotypes mostly are about the peoples class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation. I think that people all have to stereotype the show so that they can figure out whats going on with that character and understand whats going on with rest of the show. I agree with this article that stereotyping is dangerous. People can become very offended, because of how "they" are being presented. So I think that stereotyping is okay up to a certain point.

"One Hit Wonders"

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/offbeat/2009/08/31/moos.one.hit.wonders.cnn

"How to make cash putting your videos on YouTube. CNN's Jeanne Moos reports on the $25,000 amateur video." Summary of video

This article was very intriguing! Its funny to say that this video shows a few short clips of different huge hits on youtube I have actually watched before! That's what made this interesting for me to watch. But I think it is ridiculous for people to be earning a lot of money for filming some little lame video clip. Yes they are very funny but our society is going down shouldn't we be paying for different more important things instead of silly entertainment? I certainly think so!
