NBA social media guidelines out

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4520907
Summary:
This article is about the NBA announcing its new social media guidelines. Telling the teams that the use of cell phones, PDAs and other electronic communications devices and Twitter, Facebook and different media sites, isn't allowed during games for players, coaches and other team people that have to deal with the game.

Response:
I think that this is very smart, because last year this was a huge thing that happened last year. Last year so many players would Twitter during the game when they were on the bench or in the locker room. I don't get why the NBA cares that much that they are doing this during the game. I think that the coaches should be more upset at the players then the NBA banding it from the league.

"Stereotyping in the Media"

http://www.media-awareness.ca/english/issues/stereotyping/index.cfm

Summary:

Media stereotypes are inevitable, especially in the advertising, entertainment and news industries, which need as wide an audience as possible to quickly understand information. Stereotypes act like codes that give audiences a quick, common understanding of a person or group of people—usually relating to their class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation.
Stereotypes can:
1. reduce a wide range of differences in people to simplistic categorizations
2. transform assumptions about particular groups of people into "realities"
3. be used to justify the position of those in power
4. perpetuate social prejudice and inequality
More often than not, the groups being stereotyped have little to say about how they are represented. It explores the impact of stereotyping on self-image and the development of attitudes among the young, and it showcases efforts to counter stereotyping with alternative programming.

Response:

This article states that television shows have a lot of stereotypes all throughout their shows. like it says stereotypes mostly are about the peoples class, ethnicity or race, gender, sexual orientation, social role or occupation. I think that people all have to stereotype the show so that they can figure out whats going on with that character and understand whats going on with rest of the show. I agree with this article that stereotyping is dangerous. People can become very offended, because of how "they" are being presented. So I think that stereotyping is okay up to a certain point.
